Franklin-Simpson High School is the only high school serving Franklin (population approximately 8000) and Simpson County (population approximately 16,000). Located in a community with both strong agricultural roots and a growing industrial base, our school strives to provide learning opportunities which will allow all of its students to make a successful transition to adult life. Students planning to attend a college or university may satisfy the Kentucky Pre-College Curriculum through classes designed exclusively for those who are college-bound, and those with eyes on a job right out of high school can get a head start through our numerous vocational education programs.
We are fortunate to be a part of an extremely supportive community, and to have the help and encouragement of both parents and citizens. We believe that our school, like our community, is “just the right size”—large enough to offer many opportunities, but small enough to still have the comfortable feeling of being at home.

Grades of A, B, C, D, and F shall be used to report the progress of students in all classes. The school-wide grading scale is a ten-point scale (90-100 = A, 80-89 = B, 70-79 = C, 60-69 = D, and 0-59 = F), and this scale is used for all levels of all classes. Conduct grades are reported as either S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory).
The opportunity to receive a weighted grade in certain classes is designed to encourage students to take more difficult and challenging classes. The weighted grade point average (6.0 scale) is used for class ranking and Beta Club purposes only. Transcripts sent to colleges reflect only the unweighted grade point average as most colleges do not accept weighted GPA's; however, besides looking at a student's unweighted GPA, colleges also look at a student's class rank, his/her performance on college entrance exams and the level of classes he/she has taken. All classes with Honors or College-Prep designations are weighted; all others are unweighted. While all unweighted GPA's are determined using a four-point scale, the following scales are used for weighted GPA's:
HONORS COLLEGE-PREP ALL OTHERS
A 6 points A 5 points A 4 points
B 5 points B 4 points B 3 points
C 4 points C 3 points C 2 point
D 3 points D 2 points D 1 point
F 0 points F 0 points F 0 points
Valedictorian / Salutatorian / Honor Graduates
The Valedictorian and Salutatorian will be selected from students receiving the Comprehensive Diploma based on their weighted GPA's calculated after their final semester of high school. Only students who have been enrolled at Franklin-Simpson High School for a total of at least four (4) full semesters (including both semesters their senior year) may be Valedictorian or Salutatorian. Honor graduates will be those in the top 10% of their class (as indicated by weighted GPA's) after their final semester.
