Simpson County Faculty/Staff/Parents/Students:
October is creeping closer and that means it’s almost time for the 2nd Annual Joseph’s Hope Foundation Monster Dash 5K and 1 mile Trick & Trail Fun Walk. Joseph’s Hope was created to raise awareness and support for the 147 million orphans worldwide and to provide adoption assistance for families working through the adoption process. Joseph’s Hope Foundation is named after the two Korean adopted children of a former Simpson Elementary 2nd Grade teacher. Proceeds from this year’s race will benefit five different families (four families in the local area – two who work in the Simpson County School System – Todd Hazel and Jessica Johnson) that are currently in-process or about to begin an international adoption.
Race Information
For those of you that participated in our inaugural race in 2011, please note that there are a few changes to the event format this year. The changes are listed below:
The first and most important is lighting. This year, the back (and darkest) part of the course will be lit by 500 glowing luminaries. This will enable the runners to see the walking groups as they pass them on the course so we don’t risk any collisions (there weren’t any last year, but we’re still adding this as a safety precaution). This won’t change the fun Fall/Halloween feel to the race as the luminaries will be like little guide lights lighting the path.
The second change is that we are issuing a “School Challenge.” There will be an award presented for the school with the most participants (this can be faculty/staff/administrators/students/parents). In order for your school to get credit, you will just need to include your school name in the box/field marked “Organization” on the on-line registration form. This box/data field is located in the section of the registration form for the event where you enter your name, email address, etc. If you choose to complete a mail in registration, simply write your schools’ name near the top of the form.
All 5K participants that complete the race will be automatically entered into a drawing for a special door prizes. Last year’s door prizes consisted of gift cards for Brooks Running, Trax, Nat’s, Titan’s Tickets, UK Basketball tickets, WKU tickets, Flat Screen LED TV and lots of area restaurants. We expect this year’s door prizes to be even better.
Don’t hesitate, register today. This year’s race shirt will be a dri-fit tech shirt) with our event logo on the front and our sponsor logo on the reverse side. The finisher medals (for the top 350 finishers of the 5K) are also in process and are being created by the same company that designs race medals from some of the most prestigious races in the US. (If you like receiving finisher medals, you’ll absolutely love this one).
