Students are now working on Unit 2 - "Operations/Algebraic Thinking!"
The "I Can" Statements for this unit are:
1. I can decide if an equation is true or false. That means I can look at a problem like 5 + 2 = 7 or 6 + 3 = 2 and say if that problem is right or wrong.
2. I can relate counting to addition and subtraction. That means I can skip count by 2, 5, and 10 to add and subtract.
3 I can solve word problems using addition when the sums are less than 10. That means I can solve a word problem like: I had 3 pennies. Then I found 6 more. How many pennies do I have now? 3 + 6 = 9
4. I can solve word problems using subtraction when the differences are less than 10. That means I can solve word problems like: Jo had 8 balloons until 2 flew away. How many balloons does she have left? 8 - 2 = 6
**Students will have math homework almost every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights! This homework will be a variety of exercises to practice math facts. A great practice to do throughout first grade is addition and subtraction flashcards (you can purchase sets at Wal-mart) with sums of 20 and subtraction from 20.
