Grade Components (Each Trimester):

Homework (15%)

Most all homework will be taken up and assessed.  A point system will be used.  Assignments will be graded for accuracy or completeness.  All homework graded for accuracy may be redone for full credit.  A student is given one week from the day the work is returned to redo it.

Tests (45%) and Quizzes (15%)

One graded quiz will usually be given during a chapter.  There may also be short nongraded quizzes given in order for me to simply assess the students’ understanding of the material.  Each chapter will be followed by a test.  They will be graded for accuracy.  Quizzes will be assessed by points while tests will be assessed by percentage correct.

Classwork (10%)

Most all classwork will be assessed on completeness and/or accuracy.  This work will be completed in the classroom.  Any student absent during the day the classwork is given will not be given a grade for that assignment.  (NOTE:  THIS IS NOT A ZERO.  THIS MEANS THIS ASSIGNMENT WILL NOT BE PART OF HIS OR HER AVERAGE).

Final (15%)

A comprehensive final will be given at the end of each trimester.

The grading scale will be consistent with that of Franklin-Simpson High School.

Late Work/Missing Work Policy

If a student does not turn in homework on time, then it is considered late.  If the late work is due to an excused absence, the student has one week to turn in the work with no penalty.  Otherwise, the late work can score no higher than 60% of the total points.  Any work that is more than one week late will be scored as a zero.    Tests and Quizzes need to be made up within two weeks of the date of the assessment.  Any test or quiz not made up after two weeks will be scored as a zero.  Students should take care of these situations as soon as possible.

Class Expectations:

  • BE ON TIME!  You are expected to be in class ready to go when the bell rings.   Stay in your seat unless instructed otherwise. The absent/tardy school policy will be enforced.  You must be in the room when the bell BEGINS to ring to not be tardy.
  • BE PREPARED!  Always have your textbook, paper, and writing utensils.
  • BE IN CLASS!  You will be given five passes during a trimester to leave the classroom.  You must have a pass in order to leave unless called by the office.  Any passes left over at the end of the trimester may be turned in for rewards.
  • BE WITHOUT FOOD AND DRINK!  Food is not allowed in the classroom.  Drinks must be in a bottle with a capped top.
  • NO CELL PHONES, MUSIC DEVICES, OR HATS are not to be used or worn during class.  They will be taken up.
  • BE RESPECTFUL!  Respect yourself and others.
