Reading Information

Important Reading Information

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year. This page will be updated as we begin every unit in reading. Please make sure your child is reading 20 minutes each night at home. It has been proven that 60 minutes of reading a day greatly improves fluency, comprehension and vocabulary. On Monday your child will receive a fluency passage which they are to read every night of the week. They are to answer the questions on the back using complete sentences. This page is to be completed and returned on Friday or the last day of school that week.

I would prefer they are reading AR books as this will help them be ready to take a test at school so they can be successful in reaching 100% of their AR goal. They can check out AR books from our classroom on a daily basis as long as they bring back the previous one. It is up to them to take the initiative on checking out books and taking AR tests. There is testing time each day after completing morning work, after reading centers, and various other times.

You may also get AR books from The Goodnight Library, and they will be checking out books from our own school library.

These are skills that we will be working on this unit. Please use these as a guide in helping your child as he/she reads at home.
