This year in language arts, we are going to work together to become stronger readers and writers. You will be exposed to a variety of activities and assignments that will help strengthen your reading and writing skills. We will begin the year with our narrative reading and writing unit. This unit is filled full of interesting characters and activities! The next path we will travel down is our informative reading and writing unit. Main idea, text structures, text features, and objective summaries are just a few skills that will be covered in this unit. The next part of our journey will be our argumentative reading and writing unit. I love this unit because it allows students to examine arguments and claims, create thesis statements, and write argumentative pieces of writing. We will end the year with a "grammar bootcamp," which will require you to tackle various obstacles in the world of grammar. This bootcamp will help you master some of the most confusing rules of the English language. As you can see, we are going to have a very exciting year in language arts!
Please get in the habit of checking my webpage every day. This will help you stay up to date with daily assignments, activities, and important deadlines. If you are absent from class, you should look at the "Assignments" section to see what was covered while you were out. Being "proactive" in this process will help you tremendously upon your return to class. "Files & LInks" is a very helpful section that houses PowerPoint presentations, handouts, and class notes.
Students should bring 3-ring binder to language arts class every day. This binder should have plenty of loose-leaf paper. Students should also have glue sticks, a box of coloring pencils, and pencils. Composition notebooks will be kept in the classroom.
