This course serves as an introduction to both areas of accounting and finance. Topics studied include banking, credit, financial literacy, career exploration, spreadsheet usage, and technical writing. The accounting principles taught in this course are based on a double-entry system and include preparing bank reconciliations, payroll taxes, and financial statements. Opportunities are provided for the development of problem solving, decision-making, reasoning, and study skills through school and work-based learning experiences.
- Base Camp Opportunity
"The Kentucky Society for Certified Public Accountants (KyCPA) is taking applications for its free summer business camp program for high school juniors and seniors. Held June 6-10 at Bellarmine University's campus in Louisville, selected students will stay on campus and learn the basics of business and accounting in a hands-on, interactive format. During BASE Camp, students will visit the University of Louisville College of Business, Spalding University, the corporate office of Yum! Brands, Inc. and tour a public accounting firm. Tuition, room and board, meals, books, tours and activities at the camp are all provided free to selected participants.
Those interested must do the following: Submit a completed application, available on KyCPA's student Web site, cpa2be.org Submit a $25 nonrefundable application fee with the completed application. Have a teacher complete the online Student Recommendation Form. Must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4-point scale. Write a brief paragraph on why he or she wishes to attend BASE Camp.
