Can you believe it? We are almost halfway through the 3rd nine weeks. For the past five weeks, we have been working hard on our argumentative essays. As soon as we wrap up our essays, we will be diving into poetry.
Black History Month takes place during the month of February. In order to celebrate BHM, we will be studying African American poets and their works. Students will be encouraged and inspired by poets from all walks of life. Along with studying poetry, students will create a poem of their own with the themes of IDENTITY in mind.
After our enriching study of Black History Month & poetry, we will slide in our study of The Outsiders or That was Then, This is Now. These are two of my favorite novels to teach and I have seen it change lives. It was a fabulous book that all kids grow to love over the course of three weeks.
