The objective of this course is to increase students’ understanding and appreciation of the English language and literature while helping each student prepare to succeed in future AP English courses. The major difference between a regular high school English course and a Pre-AP level course is the greater amount of reading and depth of focus that is found in the Pre-AP curriculum. Moreover, the Pre-AP curriculum demands higher-order thinking skills within rigorous academic context. Thus, students are frequently required to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate all genres of literature, in addition to comprehending, memorizing, and applying facts and information. Students will be expected to present information orally and develop correct research techniques. This is an EOC course; twenty percent of your final grade will be determined by your EOC grade.
