Picturing America
  • Picturing America Project
In the Spring of last year I wrote a grant proposal to the National Endowment for the Humanities to receive large laminated artwork for our library.  We were granted these and have them for the library. The set includes 20 two sided  artworks for a total of 40.  These are accompanied by a Teacher's Resource Book.
I recently set these up  as an Art Gallery in the Creative Creations Room for the students to choose their favorite and duplicate.  Wow!  All artists need inspiration, some of these were fantastic!  They were very proud of their artwork and they thought it was helpful to look at something when they were trying to draw it.
The students wanted to continue the Art Gallery so I moved it to the Library and have let students browse and work on their replicas as time allowed.
This artwork is also available for teachers to borrow to supplement their lessons.  When were were studying about George Washington I had the Emanuel Leutze, Washington Crossing the Delaware, 1851 on display for students to look at, which greatly added to our study.   We also have  the Alexander Gardner, Abraham Lincoln, February 5, 1865 portrait and the students absolutely loved it.  Several wanted to draw that one!
This collection of American Art has helped our students understand America's History!
