Welcome to the Teacher Quality homepage.  We have many initiatives underway in Simpson County this year to enhance the quality of our instruction and support and recognize teachers engaged in improving their practice.

New Teacher Mentoring Pilot Program

In 2009, the Simpson County Board of Education approved a district-wide goal of expanding supports for teachers in years 2-4.  This pilot program offers support for teachers in their first year of teaching following KTIP, with the goal of further expanding the program. Experienced teachers have applied and been accepted to serve as teacher mentors.  These mentors will earn a small stipend and receive training and support will be provided for mentors.  For an overview of the program proposal, please see the PowerPoint presentation under the Forms section of this webpage.  Mentoring forms are also posted.

National Board Certified Teacher and NBCT Take One Program

Seventeen Simpson County educators are participating in the prestigious National Board Certified Teacher and NBCT Take One programs this year.  National Board Certification comes with a host of benefits and recognitions.  Visit the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards website for more information, and contact me if you are interested in becoming a part of the program.

Instructional Rounds

This year the leadership of the Simpson County Schools has committed to promoting effective, self-reflective instruction and leadership through the practice of instructional rounds.  Based on the book, Instructional Rounds in Education and the work of Harvard educator Richard Elmore, and inspired the model of medical rounds in teaching hospitals, the instructional rounds protocol is a non-evaluative, collaborative problem-solving process.  Instructional Rounds will be conducted at each school at least twice during the Spring  semester and will include teachers and school and district administrators.  For more information on instructional rounds, see the links section at the right.
